Kitchen and adjacent area layout
The kitchen is an L shaped room, due to the stairs leading to the basement. There are two entrances into the kitchen, and a pass-through into the Living Room.
Please click on the image for a larger scale floor plan that has clearer text labels.
Kitchen
This view of the kitchen is taken from the right-most entrance from the Dining room. You can see the double stainless-steel sink, set into an 8' long arborite counter. There is a light over the sink. The stove is a modern, coil top stove with digital timer, but unfortunately, it is not a self-cleaning variety. There is a peg-board recess for hanging larger kitchen pots and pans. The floor is a comfortable Armstrong Sundial vinyl cushion floor.
In total, there are 18 cupboards for storage, 5 pull-out drawers beneath the counter, and a wide pullout drawer for cutlery beneath the pass-through counter. We typically assign three above or below the counter cupboard spaces to each student, and so far we have not enountered any mention of insufficient space from any Tenant.
The Kitchen is fully equipped, and we expect you to share the use of our kitchen equipment. Please do not bring any more items. We have a blender, toaster, roasting pans, electric mixer, electric rice cooker, etc.
There is a fan over the stove, vented outside.
This view of the kitchen is taken standing in the Living room, looking through the 5' long pass-through. You can see a fridge, and a built-in microwave oven on the left wall, and a few cupboards on top of the fridge.
We have a 2nd fridge to provide sufficient space for everybody. It is slightly bigger than the one in the picture, and is located in the room marked "Closet", besdie the Dining room.
This view of the kitchen is taken by standing in the closet between the Dining room and the Living room, to show the two entrances into the Kitchen, and the pass-through counter into the Living room.
Downstairs Bathroom
This bathroom has a 5' porcelain-on-steel tub with a shower head. The pressure balance control for the shower ensures that there will be no temperature shocks when someone else flushes a toilet, or turns on a tap. The toilet is new, and the one piece tub surround is a few years old. The floor is Armstrong Sundial vinyl cushion floor.
There is a grab bar, left over from the previous owner that we have left in place. There is a GFI protected duplex receptacle for shavers and hair dryers.
The outside vented fan is operated on its own timer to keep the noise down to a minimum.
Living Room
This is the smaller of two common rooms that are located downstairs. We will call the other one a Den to reduce confusion. This room is adjacent to the Kitchen, and faces out onto the street. We have recently refinished the oak hardwood floors, what a job! There are two couches in this room, only the tip of the 2nd one is visible in this photo. There is also a pass through from this room to the Kitchen.
Den
This is a view of the Den from the entrance door towards the back yard.
The Den is the largest room in the house. It was built and used by the previous owners as a meeting room, and so it has plenty of space. It is 21 by 15 feet rectangular room, with the south wall nearly all glass and a patio door to the back yard. It has a glass panel in the door that isolates it from the entrance mud room. It also has a bookcase.
It has two media outlet jacks at either end of the room. We have supplied a HD 1080P TV and a DVD player in this common room for the enjoyment of everyone. The TV is connected to an outside antenna. There are two couches in an L shape for watching TV, and a coffee table for the remote controls, and the inevitable bags of chips.
Two of these pictures were taken in August 2018.
This view of the Den is photographed while standing in front of the patio door, looking inward towards the entrance door. In the background is the shared computer and a round table and wood chairs.
This view of the Den features the round table, computer desk with computer and laser printer, and extra paper is located on the top shelf of the bookcase in the background. This shared computer is for the students to use. It is connected to the Internet, runs Windows XP professional, and is slow compared to the latest and greatest.
